Dallas Cowboys Facts

  • The Dallas Cowboys were created in 1960.  However, George Preston Marshall, the owner of the Washington Redskins attempted to block their creation. In order to overcome this opposition, Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne, the founders of the Dallas Cowboys, purchased the rights to the song “Hail to the Redskins.”  In order to continue playing the traditional song at Redskins’ games, Marshall gave up and unblocked the way for the Dallas Cowboys to become an NFL franchise.
  • The Dallas Cowboys were originally called the Dallas Steers and the Dallas Rangers before officially becoming the Cowboys.
  • The Dallas Cowboys have a 160 game record for sold out games, making Dallas Cowboys tickets very hard to get.
  • Instead of retiring numbers, the Cowboys have a “Ring of Honor” in which they induct not only team members but members of management.
