• The founder, Rankin M Smith Sr. chose the name “Falcons” from an essay contest held in 1965.  The winner’s essay said “The falcon is proud and dignified, with great courage and fight. It never drops its prey. It’s deadly and has a great sporting tradition.”
• The Falcons very first victory was away from home against the New York Giants.
• The Falcons earned the nickname “Dirty Birds” from their Dirty Bird endzone dance.
